Lok Sabha passes RTI amendment Bill
New Delhi, July 23 (RNI): A critical piece of legislation that seeks to amend the landmark transparency law, Right to Information (RTI), was passed by the Lok Sabha on Monday amid strong protests by all key Opposition partie

To become a law, the bill will now need the approval of the Rajya Sabha, where the government is in a minority.

The Right to Information (Amendment) Bill, 2019, passed with a voice vote in the Lower House, seeks to empower the central government on deciding the terms of chief information commissioners and information commissioners at both the central and state levels, as well as have a say on the salaries, allowances and other terms and conditions of service.

New Delhi, July 9 (RNI): Both the houses of Parliament today witnessed noisy scenes over the political situation in Karnataka. The Rajya Sabha was adjourned twice, before being adjourned for the day following ruckus by Congress members over Karnataka issue. As soon as House met at 11 a.m. Congress members created ruckus after which the Chairman adjourned the house till noon. But when house reassembled after first adjournment, Congress members again trooped into the well raising slogans. TMC members were also in the well against the disinvestment in PSUs. Deputy Chairman Harivansh repeatedly urged the agitating members for order in the house but in vain. Later, he adjourned the house till 2 PM. The house was adjourned for the day immediately after it was assembled after second adjournment.
