Online Dispute Resolution Mechanism is a laudable initiative and saves time and cost: Vice President
New Delhi, 21 April (RNI) | Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu has said that Online Dispute Resolution Mechanism is a laudable initiative to fast-track dispute resolution and it shall go a long way in resolving disputes, attracting more foreign investment by projecting India as an investor-friendly country and strengthen economy.

His remarks came while addressing the National Conference on ‘Online Dispute Resolution Mechanism’, organized by the Construction Industry Arbitration Council (CIAC), in the capital on Saturday.

“Online Dispute Resolution mechanism is the need of the hour keeping the increase of e-commerce and e-businesses in view,” he said welcoming the measures taken by Ministry of Law and Justice to introduce Online Dispute Resolution through mediation, arbitration and conciliation.

This results in saving a lot of time and cost, he added.

The Vice President also complimented the Ministry of Law and Justice for taking the initiative in evolving this system and said this will help courts to concentrate on access to justice to people in better manner.

The rapid development of the Internet and electronic commerce, Online Disputes Resolution has been labelled “a logical and natural step” as it facilitates expeditious resolution of disputes,” he said.

The Vice President said that the CIAC has been closely associated with UN Commission on international trade and law.

“Domestic and international trade and commerce has spurred competition provide more opportunities and imputed risks. The commercial arbitration in India is witnessing a steady transition and it should become more simpler,” he added.

Vice President Naidu also said that country like India having a sound legal framework and ease of doing business can become a natural choice for investors.

“Flagship programs like establishment of Smart Cities in India would require a techno-legal smart dispute resolution mechanism. People should also be made aware of the avenues available,” he said.

    Bhubaneswar, November 15 (RNI) : The House Committee of Odisha Assembly will table its report in connection with the controversy surrounding journalist Abhijit Iyer-Mitra on the first day of winter session of the State Assembly starting tomorrow. After a meeting, Chairman of the House Committee and Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra today stated that the panel, which was formed as per directive of the Odisha Assembly Speaker will submit its report to the House. Earlier this month, Iyer-Mitra deposed before the House Committee of the Odisha Assembly for the third time and submitted an affidavit over his alleged remarks against legislators. Iyer-Mitra had submitted the affidavit in presence of the House Committee Chairman Narasingha Mishra and member Sanjay Das Burma at the Odisha Assembly building. On October 23, Iyer-Mitra had tendered an unconditional apology for his derogatory remarks on the Konark Sun Temple and comments on MLAs. Odisha Assembly speaker Pradip Amat, on September 20, had constituted a panel to probe the journalist’s alleged derogatory remarks against the State and its lawmakers. The Commissionerate Police had arrested the journalist in connection with a case filed at Sahid Nagar Police Station under sections 294, 295A, 153A, 500, 506 of IPC and section 67 of the Information Technology Act over his derogatory remarks against Odisha and Konark Sun Temple. Currently, Iyer-Mitra is lodged at the Jharpada jail in Bhubaneswar in connection with the case. Meanwhile, the arrest of Iyer-Mitra has also made headline in the foreign media. The BBC News portal has published an article on the matter and stated that despite seeking apology, the bail plea of the journalist and defence expert has been rejected twice and serious charges have been framed against him. If proven guilty, he could face jail term of five years, the news portal stated.

    Bhubaneswar, November 15 (RNI) : The Commissionerate Police has placed a requisition before the police headquarters for deployment of senior police officials from other parts of Odisha in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar which will play host to three major events including the Men’s Hockey World Cup and Bali Yatra. Moreover, 30 platoons of police force will be deployed during the winter session of Odisha Assembly starting from tomorrow. Besides, around 60 platoons of police force will be deployed during the Hockey World Cup in Bhubaneswar. “We are expecting a lot of demonstrations as it would be the last Assembly session. Similarly, after the inauguration of the new bridge, Bali Yatra will too register an increase in footfalls,” said Police Commissioner, Satyajit Mohanty. Mohaty informed that all the requisite police arrangements including for the Assembly session, men’s Hockey World Cup and Bali Yatra are being made keeping in view all aspects and challenges. “The deployments will be made as per our plan and we are hopeful of smooth conduct of these events. Moreover, forces from other parts of the State will be mobilised and we have sought for deployment of 250 officers, 50 DSP and ACP-rank officers from outside,” Mohanty added.

    Bhubaneswar, November 15 (RNI) : A bear was caught in a trap that was laid for capturing wild boar in Malikeswari area of Malkangiri district on Wednesday night. The matter came to light after the locals spotted the bear this morning and later informed the Forest department officials. On being informed a team of Forest department officials reached the spot to rescue the bear. “With the combined efforts of our team and villagers the bear has been rescued,” said Malkangiri Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF), Srikant Nayak. “We have kept it in a cage and will take it to the range office after tranquilising the animal. The bear will be released into the jungle”, Nayak further added. The preliminary treatment of the bear will be done after tranquilisation, informed sources.

He informed that in two years, positive results have started to appear.
